Meet the Owners

Founder and Owner

Tiaan Bouwer

Tiaan's dream has always been to own his own climbing gym. Late 2017 he made his dream a reality by opening up Rock Valley Climbing.

Being involved in professional sport most of his life, Tiaan started sharing his passion, skill and knowledge with the youth climbers of the RVC Club as Head Coach in early 2018. Since then, the coaching club has grown in coaching numbers year after year. Tiaan loves interacting with all the climbers at the gym. He is proud coach to five Protea athletes who will be representing SA at the Youth Worlds in South Korea later this year. Apart from coaching, Tiaan fulfills many duties such as being a husband to Carmen, dad to three girls and head setter at RVC.

During July of 2023, Tiaan took part and successfully completed the International Advanced Route Setters Course hosted by the Western Cape Climbing Province. The course was presented by international route setters, Nat Atari and Jan and Marco Jubes.

Amongst all of the above, Tiaan designs and makes Rock Valley's own fibre climbing holds. These were used at the recent 2023 SANCF Nationals held in Kzn where Tiaan was one of six route setters at this event.

So next time you see him, say "Hi" and get your climb on!
